Lesson 4: Describing Things in Detail

Instructor: “Hello again! Welcome back to Spoken English for Daily Use. In this lesson, we’ll learn how

to describe people, places, and things in detail. Being able to describe things clearly will help you in everyday conversations. Let’s get started!”

Part 1: Basic Adjectives for Descriptions

Instructor: “When we describe something, we use adjectives. Here are some common ones:

✅ Size: big, small, tiny, huge ✅ Color: red, blue, green, white ✅ Shape: round, square, oval, rectangular ✅ Texture: soft, rough, smooth, hard ✅ Condition: new, old, broken, clean, dirty

For example:

 This is a small house.

 She has a red dress.

 The floor is very clean.

Let’s see how to describe people!”

Part 2: Describing People

Instructor: “When describing people, we talk about their appearance and personality.

🔹 Appearance: tall, short, slim, fat, young, old 🔹 Hair & Eyes: curly hair, straight hair, brown eyes, blue eyes 🔹 Personality: friendly, kind, smart, funny, lazy, hardworking

Example conversations:

👩: Can you describe your teacher? 🦰: Yes! She is tall and kind. She has short black hair and brown eyes.

Now, let’s practice describing places!”

Part 3: Describing Places

[Scene: Images of different places (house, park, school, beach).]

Instructor: “We can describe places using adjectives and details.

✅ My house is big and beautiful. It has three bedrooms and a small garden. ✅ The beach is clean and peaceful. The water is blue and clear. ✅ The market is crowded and noisy, but you can buy fresh fruits there.

Now, let’s move to describing objects!”

Part 4: Describing Objects

[Scene: Picture of a phone, book, and chair.]

Instructor: “When describing objects, we use:

🔹 Size: small, big, long, short 🔹 Material: wooden, plastic, metal, glass 🔹 Condition: new, old, broken, expensive, cheap

Examples:

📱 This is a small black phone. It is very expensive. 📖 This book is old and thick. It has 300 pages. 🦰 The chair is made of wood and is very strong.

Part 5: Student Practice (Call & Response)

Instructor: “I will say a sentence, and you repeat after me.

❓ The car is red and fast. ✅ (Student repeats)

❓ My teacher is friendly and smart. ✅ (Student repeats)
